After the attempted escape - here is the new cage. After a quick phone call to Pets At Home, I was very impressed that they credited me for the old cage (no receipt) and allowed me to change it for this model - which I think may be more gerbil proof.
Time will tell.

Hi Debbie, the cage looks very similar to the one our hamster had and he never escaped in the 3 years we had him.
